EXPERIENCE

Towards a new idea of progress

The History of Deigma in Cima was born in 1932

Those were years of the export embargo on behalf of the northern countries towards Italy and Germany because of the aggressive expansionary policy by those governments.

Giovanni Pomati senses the chance to make up for the shortage of manufactured goods. Therefore he decided to add to the traditional sales and customer service activities a new production line able to support the increasing demand from the expansioning automotive industry.

The production of magnets and motors, in particular, required the installation of a line for the acceptance and performance tests.

Giovanni Pomati creates a machinery called DEIGMA which has exactly this fundamental function. DEIGMA is a Greek word meaning model, example, prototype.

In ancient times the word Deigma used to identify that area in the Pireo and other Greek Ports where the merchants showed their samples in exhibitions with the aim of gathering orders for the following supplies.

In the Bible (Jude 1:7) the punishment inflicted on Sodom and Gomorrah is described as an example (deigma) of eternal fire.

After almost 90 years, Deigma and its symbolic meaning are still alive in the new electric power train for boats, which inherit not only the name but also the logotype.

Deigma propulsion system, showed at the METS 2019 (click here), reveals itself as a symbolic model, as well as its predecessor, in terms of performance and innovation for this product line.

In the POD and Inboard version, Deigma Propulsion systems are setting themselves up as a new zero impact reference for the nautical sector.

The study and design of Deigma's logo reveals explicit cultural  influences on its origin in those years. Actually in the 20s and 30s Cubism, Bauhaus and especially Futurism strongly influenced commercial design and graphics, giving birth to the Art Déco style.

Starting from the choice of the font, up to the fluctuation imposed on the same characters that make up the word DEIGMA, we can clearly perceive cultural references on innovation, development, progress which were very popular in the European society between the two world wars.

Almost a century later, the decision to reintroduce this fundamental element of CIMA1915 history, discloses the Company's intention to inspire through its essence a new concept of progress, meaning a process of improvement of the human society, where respect of the environment and social responsibility are founding pillars.
